On Tues¬day, May 29, the library hosted the “Meet Your Fire Marshal” event, bringing in Fire Marshal Jason McBroom to speak on be¬half of the Alpine Fire Protection District. This month’s topic was private water storage tanks for wildland firefighting. He displayed a PowerPoint presentation in the community room. His presentation was informative and simple with pictures to aid viewers in understanding his message. McBroom focused on the importance of having access to all private water sources to ensure the maximum water output on a wild or structural fire. He stat¬ed, “If you have a private water storage tank installed on your property, understanding how it works, why it works, and why we as the first responders need to have access to a reliable water source is very important.” McBroom has been in fire protection and safety for almost 20 years. He has worked in the private and public sectors all over the state of California. He addresses that elected officials such as Alpine’s local State Sen. Joel Anderson play a significant role in fire safety. “We have put a lot of trust in our elected officials as being the voice of our governing bodies… Especially with Senator Anderson’s office, he has been a constant in the fire service, a very large advocate and with his continued support, we hope to continue the relationships that we have.” Anderson provided a Senate certificate of recognition to McBroom for his unyielding commitment to public safety and his unwavering bravery through life saving fire suppression, his emergency response efforts, and his outstanding service to our community. Anderson affirmed, “The Alpine Fire Protection Dis-trict works diligently day and night to keep Alpine safe, and I am grateful that they make it a priority to connect with the community to help educate us on fire prevention and protection.” McBroom will be conducting another presentation focused on fire safety at the library on June 26 at 5:30 P.M.
