March is a particularly crafty month at the library. We are collaborating with the Barona Cultural Center & Museum to bring you Kumeyaay CosmolÂogy for Kids on Friday, March 15 from 4-5 p.m. Assistant CuÂrator Jennifer Stone will share a story about ‘emuu (bighorn sheep), teach children about Kumeyaay constellations, and lead them in a watercolor craft. This program is limited to 20 children, ages 5 and up. RegisÂter at sdcl.org/alpine.
On Saturday, March 16 at 10:30 a.m., we are making lepÂrechaun catchers. The library will provide all supplies, inÂcluding the leprechaun bait! No registration is required for this event, and it is best suited for children ages 5 and up.
For teens ages 13-17, we are crafting wallets out of duct tape. On Tuesday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m., learn how to make a cute, durable, and inexpenÂsive wallet with this every-day item. Registration is required at sdcl.org/alpine.
We have another great opÂportunity for teens to get creÂative, by participating in our Teen Read & Art Contest. Pick up a free copy of the book So B. It by Sarah Weeks at the liÂbrary starting March 1. Read the book, make a work of art inspired by the book, and have your art displayed at an art show for the whole community on April 23. The top two pieces, one from middle school and one from high school, will each be awarded a $100.00 Visa gift card! Submit your art to the liÂbrary April 19-20.
We are happy to announce the debut of a new program for adults who are interested in the craft of writing. The first meeting of our Writers’ WorkÂshop is on Tuesday, March 26 from 4-6 p.m. The workshop is for all levels, from beginÂner to seasoned writer, and all genres. Share your work with the group, get feedback, and have fun!
All library programs are free. Open the attached events calÂendar for a complete schedule or visit sdcl.org/alpine. Thank you to the Alpine Library Friends Association for their generous support.
