La Jolla laughs to benefit Alpine sanctuary

The La Jolla Comedy store is hosting a one-night only comedy performance on March 16 at 8 p.m. to benefit Alpine exotic animal rescue facility Lions Tigers and Bears.

The show will feature Jonathan Kite, Zoltan Kaszas, Jason Rogers, Ali Malik and Lizzie Rose. Half of all ticket sales will be donated to the rescue.

A night of comedy to benefit Lions Tigers and Bears is scheduled for March 16.

Founder and Director Bobbi Brink started the rescue in 2002 after learning there are more tigers living in backyards, basements and roadside zoos than in the wild, and that anyone can buy a big cat for less than a purebred domestic cat to use in cub petting photo opportunities and other for-profit businesses.

There is no federal tracking system for exotic animals and Lions Tigers and Bears has coordinated the rescue of more than 240 big cats, bears, wolves and other exotics from across the United States. Currently, the 93-acre rescue is home to over 65 animals including lions, tigers, American and Himalayan black bears, grizzly bears, bobcats, mountain lions, servals and leopards, as well as many farm animals such as horses, goats and sheep.

The non-profit is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a place where abused and abandoned exotic animals can live out their years.

Proceeds from the American Me comedy show will go towards food, enrichment, habitat maintenance, veterinary care and future big cat and bear rescue work.

The non-profit sanctuary is located at 22402 Martin Way, Alpine. More information about the facility is available at lionstigersandbears.org

The benefit will be held at 916 Pearl Street, La Jolla. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at showclix.com.
