Congressman-elect Darrell Issa (right) praised El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells during a rally at El Cajon Centennial Plaza Monday. The event was a rally advocating the full re-opening of businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this month the state of California mandated businesses such as restaurants cease serving customers on site as a way of slowing the spread of COVID-19. Issa described Wells as a hero for encouraging businesses to stay open despite the fact that the city case rate is among the top five in the county. As of Dec. 20 the county of San Diego reported 6,189 COVID-19 cases in El Cajon. In Alpine there are a reported 618 cases. Issa represents Alpine and a wide swath of East County.
