The parade is always a fun collaboration of everything country. The little town almost closes down for this big day that began at 10 a.m. with the carrying of the American Flag, and continuing on with custom vehicles, custom tractors, merchants, marching music and organizations.
“The Descanso day parade is special because the parade originated as an opportunity to recognize citizens who contributed to the success of Descanso and its town hall. You can always count on the people of Descanso to turn out and support our community.” said Senator Joel Anderson who rode in the parade and was represented by his team who marched with a “Clean Up Sacramento” banner.
The name Descanso means place of rest, and it truly fits this little town. Descanso is located off of Highway 79, and is snuggled back in the mountain. Every year on the second weekend of July, the residents of Descanso celebrate with their annual parade, and fair.
The fair is always located at the Descanso Town Hall and features good food, good music, and lots of laid-back fun. Crafters presented their works of art along with informational presentations. Our Lady of Light sponsored a bake sale with home made goodies.
