On December 2, 2013 the Department of State Hospitals (DSH) proposed placement of Douglas Badger at 1138 Custer Road, Campo, CA, California. This location is within the jurisdiction of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Campo/Tecate Sheriff’s Substation. Selection of the proposed placement location is the sole responsibility of DSH. However, under Welfare & Institutions Code section 6609.1, the public is permitted to comment on the proposed location before it is finalized by the Court.
Campo, California is an unincorporated community located in the Mountain Empire area of southeastern San Diego County, California. Campo covers an area of 23.5 square miles, 99.97% of it land, and the remainder water. The United States Census Bureau has Campo’s population at 2,684 in 2010. Campo is adjacent to the community of Cameron Corners and is bordered by Lake Morena Village on the west, Pine Valley on the north, Campo Indian Reservation/Interstate Highway 8 on the east, and the Mexican border on the south. Campo is located at 50 miles east of downtown San Diego via eastbound California Highway 94, the shortest driving route to this location.
The specific area proposed is a private property composed of 5.07 acres. The nearest schools are Campo Elementary (2.2 miles Northwest), Mountain Meadow High School, and Potrero Elementary School (both 8.3 miles West). The Mountain Empire Community Center is located

approximately 0.5 miles southwest of the property and the Pacific Southwest Railroad Museum is located approximately 0.4 miles south of the property.
With the court hearing scheduled for January 3, 2014, The SAFE Task Force will be accepting public comments about the proposed placement, to be included in the formal response to the Court. You may submit your comments through any of the methods listed below. Public comment will be accepted between the dates of December 10, 2013, and December 20, 2013. These comments will be forwarded to DSH and to the Court before the Hearing on this matter. Public comment will also be accepted at the hearing.
