Grossmont College’s Stagehouse Theatre is kicking off its 2024-25 season, opening with Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap,” directed by Omri Schein. This is one of Christie’s iconic whodunit murder mysteries, with all the intrigue, humor, and twists Christie is known for, and “The Mousetrap” is one of the world’s most successful and longest running plays. “The Mousetrap” will be performed on the Perform & Visual Arts Center Stage. Showtimes are Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., from Oct. – 12.
“We’re excited by the breadth and scope of our upcoming season, offering a wide range of experiences for our audiences to engage in. We’re producing our first main stage production in the new Performing and Visual Arts Center with a timeless murder mystery; delving into the challenges faced by DACA students in pursuing an education; reimagining classics with fresh, contemporary perspectives and values; engaging our student designers with new challenges and opportunities for growth; and continuing to bring engaging new works to our community schools. We have an ambitious season before us – join us,” said Katie Banville, Theatre Arts Department chair and head of the Musician Theatre Program.
On stage Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Stagehouse is running “Fab Fables!” a playful reimagining of “Aesop’s Fables, written by Omri Schein and directed by Shana Wride. “Fab Fables!” is also an elementary school touring production.
Coming in November, “Just Like Us” by Karen Zacarias takes the stage. Directed by Walter Allen Bennett, this documentary-style drama, based on Helen Thorpe’s bestselling book, follows four Latina teenage girls in Denver – two of who are documented and two who are not – through young adulthood. Run dates are Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., running Nov. 21-23 and Dec. 5-7.
Starting next semester in February is the comedy “Will You Be My Nemesis?” by Kathryn Funkhouser and directed by Melissa Glassgow. March brings “The Pirates of Penzance,” and the season will close in May with William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.”
