Supervisor, committee host meeting about Alpine

A number of issues will be on the agenda for the first Alpine Community Revitalization Committee meeting of 2019, according to officials.

The meeting with San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Alpine Library might go a bit later, said Taylor Marie Dupont of Jacob’s staff.

“There probably will be a lot of good material that will be talked about,” Dupont said.

The revitalization agendas typically include subcommittee reports on such areas as school unification, community development, roads and infrastructure, parks and recreation, and public safety/public health.

The meetings with Jacob are held twice a year to help residents in the five major unincorporated areas have a leadership role in solving local issues. Each informal meeting in Alpine, Spring Valley, Lakeside, Ramona and the Back Country is open to interested groups and the public.

Alex Ward, executive director of the Alpine Chamber of Commerce, encouraged residents to attend the Alpine revitalization meeting.

“The biggest and most important thing that I’ll be talking about is planting Alpine Boulevard,” Ward said about the boulevard beautification project. “We have 66 plants in the ground and more on the way.”

The Chamber has partnered with the Back Country Land Trust and the Certified Community Wildlife Habitat on the boulevard project, which started in fall of 2018.

President Tom Myers of the Alpine Historical Society said he plans to talk about that organization’s 2019 programs as part of revitalization and tourism.

“We don’t have any new plans for this year yet,” Myers said. “I’m sure we’d like to participate in the (Chamber’s) Spring Festival in some way.”

A revitalization subcommittee or Jacob places the individual projects or issues on the revitalization committee’s list of topics, known as the matrix.

“It really is a process,” Dupont said. “When an item is completed, it’s added to the ‘pink sheets’ at the end of the packet. Those are all completed projects. “
