For only the second time, the proposed release of a sexually violent predator is recommended in North County instead of rural East County.
The District Attorney’s Office says a July 31 hearing will be held on Zoom teleconferencing for Joseph Bocklett, now 75, who has petitioned for release from a state mental hospital. Bocklett was convicted of molesting three girls and one boy over a 19-year period.
A residence on Adams Drive in Pauma Valley is recommended for him. That area is represented by County Supervisor Jim Desmond. Only one other time was a sexually violent predator recommended for release in Borrego Springs instead of East County.
County Supervisor Dianne Jacob has often complained that too often areas in Jacumba Hot Springs, Campo, Descanso and other East County areas have become “dumping grounds” for the release of SVPs.
The hearing on July 31 will start at 9 a.m. and be broadcast via Zoom online. The DA’s office said more information will be forthcoming on the DA website about how residents can call in to speak at the hearing.
Bockett is currently being housed at Coalinga State Hospital. People who wish to write in their comments can mail them to SVP Release/SAFE Task Force, 9425 Chesapeake Drive, San Diego, CA 92123. The email address is sdsafe@sdsheriff.org.
