Thought for the Week: Angels in Disguise

As we continue with the theme this month of “Serving,” I’d like to look at all the “Angels in Disguise” we have among us. First of all, what is an angel in your opinion? Well to me most of the time they stay hidden from view, but that doesn’t mean they’re not there. What do they do? To me they are helpers, in other words they give tirelessly. They aren’t overbearing either. They are gentle, there’s nothing pushy about them. But that doesn’t mean they are weak, on the contrary, they are amazingly strong, they are wise, they are resourceful, and they follow their guidance from within.

Now, saying all that can you think of any angels that you know? I sure can. First of all, they are the folks at my church who show up and give of their time, talent and treasure. They are the oh so many first responders; they are teachers, they work in the healthcare industry, they are custodians and the folks who drive school buses. In other words, they could be just about anybody that has a caring heart and doesn’t mind doing necessary work to make the world a better place. Would you put yourself in that category? I dare say most of us initially would say no. Why? Because angels for the most part don’t like to boast or take credit for the slow and steady work they do. They aren’t fed by their egos for they are fed from the well spring of living waters deep within their souls. I challenge you this coming week to be on the lookout for the angels all around you and if you can, give them a pat on the back and let them know how grateful you are that they are in your life. Most especially take heed to their wisdom when shared and if the spirit moves you, emulate their kindness, strength, and fortitude. In that way you too will be an angel on earth.

Say with me: “I see angels all around me. I appreciate them and will do what I can do to be one as well.”
