Thought for the Week: Sacred service-Seva

This month I’ve chosen the theme of “Paying Forward – Giving Back” with this Sunday’s topic being “Sacred Service – Seva”. The word “Seva” is a Sanskrit word often associated with the facet of yoga meaning “service”. Taken as a whole, the word “seva” means “together with” and describes the actions that seek collective uplifting through the understanding of the needs of others and are based on togetherness and integration.

As we look at the world God made we see how integrated everything is. There is an underlying harmony that produces the changes of the seasons, the ebb and flow of the tides, the planets whirling in space with precise execution. Our very nature also reflects this perfect harmony. We are part of the vast divine design of the creator. Made in Its image, I believe we are here to reflect back out into our world of effects the wholeness that we are. This is done by recognizing our fullness and passing on or sharing what we have been given with others.

Giving and providing service to others broadens and deepens our awareness of our infinite nature. Life is meant to flow and circulate. Filling a need, no matter how trivial, places us in that flow of Life. There are many “pieces” that are needed and necessary to make up the whole of Life. Open your eyes and your sensitivity to performing a meaningful task for another this week. Practice the Golden Rule and do unto others as you would have them do to you.

Say with me: “I look for ways to give from the abundance that I have been given. I know that as I give, I do receive and so I eagerly place myself in the flow of Life. I appreciate others and if I can lighten their load Father, let me do just that. Let me be the gift to the world you intend me to be. And it is so.”
