Thought for the Week: What am I?

As we move through this month highlighting praise and thanksgiving, let us be alertly aware of our true identity. Many people may ask themselves, “who am I?”, but the higher or deeper question is “what am I?”. For you are not our body, that was born and will die, or your mind that is changeable. You are not the roles you play such as spouse, parent, sibling, employee, employer or friend.

You are the silent witness of what you observe. You are pure energy and spirit – that is what you are – you were never born and will never die for your essence is eternal. When you tap into this Truth, you are set free from fear and limitations.

Develop the practice of being grateful for what you are and see that God image at the core of all beings. Abide in being the silent witness without condemnation, judgment, expectation or personality traits. Practice this exercise: “I praise and give thanks for God’s image that I am and I praise and give thanks for God’s image in all.

Whatever you praise and give thanks for magnifies and increases the object of your attention, for what you are truly doing is sending out unconditional Love, which is your true essence. Remember you are always at choice as to where you focus your attention. Develop the habit of detaching from outside conditions and circumstances and simply breath in light, love, patience and peace.

Say with me: “I praise and give thanks for the light of the world that I am and my ever expanding ability to let this light shine with ease, joy and grace. And it is so.”
