August 16— Shortly after 11 a.m. on Thursday morning a Ford Ranger pick-up truck veered off of west bound Interstate 8 at the Victoria Bridge.  The driver and passenger were killed instantly when the vehicle impacted a tree and flipped landing on its roof in a mangled mass.

California Highway Patrol was on the scene, but the accident is still under investigation.  It is unclear why the vehicle swerved off the road, as there is no indication of an attempt to avoid the inevitable crash.  Travelers on Interstate 8 witnessed the incident and tried to give assistance.

Witness also reported that there was no other vehicle involved in this incident, and this information was substantiated by Public-information Officer Brian Pennings from the California Highway Patrol.
