SAN DIEGO, March 25, 2015 — The Kylie Rowand Foundation will hold its Prayers for Kylie 2nd Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, April 13, at Steele Canyon Golf Club. The event, presented by Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, will raise money to help fund promising clinical trials and provide lifesaving treatment for children suffering from pediatric cancer.
Two-year-old Kylie Rowand passed away in February from stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma, a cancer that starts in early nerve cells of the sympathetic nervous system and is usually found in infants and young children. Neuroblastoma is the most common cancer in infants.
Her parents and Alpine residents, Luke and Bree Rowand, began The Kylie Rowand Foundation to honor the life and legacy of the two-year-old, and to help families battling pediatric cancer.
“We are so grateful for the love, prayers and generosity everyone has shown,” said Jennifer Soto, Bree Rowand’s sister. “We may not have Kylie here with us, but knowing her legacy is continuing on through the support of others inspires us to help other families struggling with cancer, fighting to save their child. Thank you all for your support of our Kylie and for keeping her spirit alive and strong!”
Pediatric cancer is the leading cause of disease-related death among children and adolescents in the United States. Only four percent of the National Cancer Institute budget is allocated for pediatric cancer research.
The golf tournament will include a 4-person shot gun scramble with awards, raffle and dinner to follow. All golfer registration includes one round of golf per golfer and dinner provided by Steele Canyon Golf Club. The registration cost is $150 for an individual, $300 for a twosome, $450 for a threesome, and $600 for a foursome. Golfers can register at any time and are asked to bring their own set of clubs.
Sponsorships for $250 are available until April 6. A sponsor package includes the option to represent your company or yourself with a sponsorship sign or in-person booth at the tee box.
The Kylie Rowand Foundation has set a goal to raise $15,000 from the event. The Foundation is also requesting silent auction items that appeal to men, like golf items, getaways, gift certificates and sports memorabilia.
The golf tournament will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by dinner, a silent auction and opportunity drawing at 7:00 p.m. The family of Kylie Rowand asks that golfers and attendees wear pink or gold in honor of the young girl. A limited number of dinner-only tickets are available for $50.
Key sponsors of the tournament include BOWIE X JAMES, Chili’s Grill and Bar, Copy Link, Farmers Insurance, Lean Body for Her, Love Fifteen Tennis, Quickstop, PAR Electrical Contractors, Inc., Pavco Electric, San Diego Electric Works, Secure Payment Systems, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation and WTB Accounting.
