Nothing draws people to the East County, like snow in the mountains does.  Early forecasts from the weather channels called for ‘feet’ of snow to fall in the mountains.  By 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, 6 inches of snow had fallen, with the promise of at least 10 more inches to approximately 2 feet.
Due to this broadcast, the access-ways to the mountains, were so clogged, that Mount Laguna and Old Hwy. 80/Sunrise Highway were closed around 11:30 a.m.

One report said that the vehicles that were in line on the mountain road were only inching along at a half a mile an hour.
The California Highway Patrol set up a station near Willows Road informing motorists of the closure.  People intent on experiencing the wintery white stuff set about parking in the turn outs to play a little.
