At last Thursday’s board meeting, AUSD Board President Eric Wray announced the selection of Bruce Cochrane as the district’s new Superintendent. Cochrane has been Director of Human Resources and Pupil Services in Alpine for the past two years.

At last Thursday’s board meeting, AUSD Board President Eric Wray announced the selection of Bruce Cochrane as the district’s new Superintendent. Cochrane has been Director of Human Resources and Pupil Services in Alpine for the past two years.
Cochrane, a graduate of San Diego State, taught in the San Diego Unified School District. He has been Assistant Principal at Torrey Pines High, an Assistant Director of Special Education in the Grossmont Union High School District, and served at Coronado High School as Director of Pupil Services. He held that position at San Dieguito Union High School District.
In an interview, Cochrane said, “I believe we are a great district” and then he said, “We are going to be phenomenal.” He has had enough experience in our district to recognize our difficulties with declining enrollment, and struggles with Common Core. But he also recognizes that Alpine has an incredible parent base, a supurb staff, and an intelligent student base.
Cochrane has the goal of parents seeing Alpine schools as the very best schools for their children to attend. He is excited to start solving problems and creating an accessibility and transparency for employees, parents and students. He sees his roll as a support for the community and the board.
Cochrane’s high school experience brings needed skills to Alpine as the community and school district proceed down the path to an Alpine high school via the unification process. Cochrane has a lot of history with the high school arena, and says that his experience is mainly from that format. He is new to the unification process, but he is looking forward to working through it. He says, “ I’m here, let me roll up my sleeves.”
