Classes offer training in wilderness first aid

Ramona’s Kit Fox Outfitters is a veteran-owned independent outdoor adventure store that focuses on providing high quality gear, training, and medical resources for all levels of outdoor recreation experience.

Kit Fox Outfitters announced its launch of its Wilderness First Aid Classes, equipping people who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and backpacking, that provide knowledge and confidence to handle medical emergencies in outdoor environments.

Classes are two days, encompassing 16 hours of training, and in 2024 are scheduled for the weekends of Feb. 3, March 2, May 11, Oct.12, and Nov. 9. Classes are held near Warner Springs on a 118-acre parcel of land situated among mountains, valleys and plains located at a 3600’ elevation. Primitive on-site camping is available at no additional cost. All training is in alignment with the Guidelines of the Wilderness Medical Society.

Wilderness First Aid Classes include:

Hands-on Training: Participants will engage in practical, hands-on scenarios to simulate real-life wilderness emergencies, enhancing their ability to respond effectively.

Critical Skills: The classes cover fundamental wilderness first aid skills, including wound care, fracture stabilization, hypothermia and heat-related illness management, and improvised medical techniques.

Certification: Successful completion of the course will earn participants three certifications, a Wilderness First Aid certification, recognized nationally, showcasing their commitment to safety and preparedness in the great outdoors; Epinephrine Administration Practice Guidelines Certification, recognized by the State of California; and Adult, Child & Infant CPR and First Aid Certification, which meets or exceeds the minimum requirement for most CPR/First Aid training needs.

Experienced instructors: Classes are led by experienced instructors with a background in wilderness medicine, ensuring a high-quality learning experience.

Small Class Sizes: To maximize individual attention and hands-on practice, class sizes are intentionally kept small, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
