Alpine View Lodge owner Linda Cioffi spearheaded a June 29 fundraiser at Casino Inn which tipped total funds her local Quest for the Cure team has raised toward Alzeimer’s support and research closer to the $80,000 goal.
Cioffi has built the Quest for the Cure team alongside Alpine View Lodge over the years. The team typically brings in more money than any other for the Alzheimer’s San Diego WALK4ALZ.
At its core, the walk is a team-based fundraiser with an emphasis on local: local residents raise money that stays local to San Diego county for Alzheimer’s support and research.
Cioffi is especially proud her team outdoes the San Diego Gas and Electric team which boasts wider name recognition yet does not garner the dollars Quest for the Cure brings in each year. Back in 2020, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic limited social gatherings yet the fundraising group still managed to gather over $45,000 toward Alzheimer’s and dementia research.
“Quest for the Cure has been the number one team at this annual walk for the past six years and is approaching over a half million dollars in funds raised. So, it was time to celebrate our success,” Cioffi said.
Last Wednesday’s event featured a raffle along with a live auction from the Alpine Fire Protection District. The winning bid of $2,100 from the Stewart family means they get to “enjoy a family dinner with Alpine’s firefighting heroes” and tour the fire station,” Cioffi said.
“The backcountry and Alpine have been leaders in raising funds and share a sense of community and a shared purpose in finding a cure in our lifetimes. We may be small in size but we have an enormous level of determination. Let’s stand by those impacted today with programs of support and let’s fund the cure we all hope for in our lifetimes,” Cioffi said.
Residents can still donate to Alzheimer’s San Diego by check, mailed to Alpine View Lodge at 973 Arnold Way, Alpine, CA 91901.
