On May 22, longtime Retired Senior Volunteer Policewoman and Alpine resident Nancy Gantz passed away.
Born in 1945, Gantz spent her professional years as a bookkeeper while raising four children before she retired and trained as a volunteer with the RSVP program.
RSVP volunteers are required to serve a minimum of six hours each week, but fellow RSVP Patty Horton said Gantz was known for going above and beyond in her service, and will be sorely missed by everyone at the Alpine Sheriff’s station.
“Her hard work and devotion to duty, plus her fun-loving attitude and outgoing personality made her an awesome partner to work with,” Horton said.
Horton said Gantz would have wanted her friends to have joy in their lives rather than spend time mourning.
RSVP Director Bob Marquardt collected positive comments from her colleagues at the station.
“She was indeed a rare spirit, not commonly found in the Law Enforcement world. Her positive attitude and kind spirit will dearly be missed, but she left us an example of what we all should strive to be more like in our own behaviors,” Marquardt included in his comments.
Another comment suggested “ Nancy had many good friends because she was a good friend. She is greatly missed.”
According to Marquardt, Gantz was “a good and loyal friend, always happy, laughing and smiling, and always willing to help”.
Horton said her comrade was also a devoted member of the community outside the sheriff’s station.
In addition to her volunteerism with law enforcement, she also served as a Deacon at Alpine Community church and supported the Alpine VFW, often spending time there with friends.
“She was always willing to go the extra mile to help neighbors, friends and peers,” Horton said.
Horton described Gantz as a frequent camper in her downtime, often spending time in the great outdoors with her family and friends.
Marquardt said the Alpine community will not be the same without her.
