Thought for the Week: Faith, meekness

We are rounding out this month with the last 3 “Fruits of the Spirit” as given in the book of Galatians those being faith, meekness and self-control. I’ll start with the last – self-control. This is referring to the ego and keeping it acting in accordance with our highest good. It’s more about being spiritually mature than anything else. As immature spiritual beings we are apt to be self-indulgent and seek immediate pleasures and gratifications. A spiritually mature individual is willing to be directed by their Higher Self rather than the lower egoic self.

This type of willingness for direction shines a spotlight on the “fruit” of meekness. Other words for meekness are humility, gentleness (which is again one of the specific fruits) and mildness. Here once again we are being instructed that the Spirit is supple, not harsh or demanding. Going with the _ ow of Life rather than against it always places us in God’s grace. Meekness is teachable, is willing to be led and guided and is open and receptive to newness with an eager heart. The final “fruit” is that of Faith. Faith is simply putting our trust in this God Presence, our Higher Self within our own heart of hearts – near than hands and feet – within our very being. We step forth with confidence that as we continually commune with our God, we are given exactly what we have need of and it is delivered always in perfect timing. My mother-in-law always called it Divine Order so much so that the family just started calling it “D.O.”

Say with me: “My life is lived in Divine Order each and every day as I prioritize the spiritual qualities of Faith, Meekness and Self-Control. I live in God’s grace and am ever so grateful. And it is so.”
