Every year, the Alpine Woman’s club harkens back to a time when Teatime was a must, and gentility was a way of life. Hats, gloves and the finest china are brought out in the afternoon for a light repast of tea and sandwiches. The Alpine Woman’s club has celebrated their annual Victorian Tea since 1993 in the Alpine Historic Town Hall.

In 1899 Mr. Benjamin Arnold advanced half the cost to build the Town Hall. The Hall Company, Inc., Alpine’s first corporation was formed with $600 in shares sold to stockholders at $10 per share.  Mr. Arnold believed that this approach would ensure that if they helped pay for it the people would have more interest in the Town Hall.  This came to pass, as the Town Hall soon became the village social and political center. Eventually this building was acquired by the Woman’s Club and has become the perfect setting for this historic Tea.
Many of the ladies who attend this tea every year, dress up in period costumes. Several take this opportunity to show off their own dressmaking skills with the elaborate Victorian attire.  They wear the obligatory hats and enjoy a meal of dainty tea sandwiches, scones, and delicate desserts accompanied by the perfect cup of Earl Gray Tea.
On May 20th, the Woman’s Club came together to enjoy their tradition of tea, serving two settings on a beautiful Saturday.  The proceeds that are raised at these events go towards their Scholarship, Preservation and Education Foundation.
